[8632] Routson Family history began in America when a Jorg (George) Michel Gibler and his wife, Anna Elizabeth Margaret Routson Giber, came to Philadelphia on Sept 19, 1749 in the ship "Patience". On board ship at the same time were Johannes and John Eberhardt Stonesifer [half brother or cousin to John Daniel Stonesifer the immigrant]. On Aug 24 1750 Mrs. Gibler's brother , John Ludwig Rauhzahn, arrived here with his family as some of the 271 passengers on board Capt. Muir's ship "Brothers"; one of the family members being a son Adam Conrad Routson. In early days, the family name was variously spelled Routzahn, Routzan, Routzong, and Rauenzahn.

In the late 1750's the Giblers came to the Silver Run Area, accompanied by their nephew Adam Conrad Routson. On May 31, 1762 Michel Giber was one of those persons who signed the Covenant agreement establishing St. Mary's Lutheran and Reformed Church at Silver Run. About 1763 Adam Conrad (b. 1736) married a girl named Elizabeth Catharine (b 1736) whose last name may have been Wiessner, and they settled in the Uniontown area near the Stonesifers. There the couple had a plantation of abt 400 acres, he farmed and was a shoemaker, and they raised a family of 10 children. They were members of the Silver Run Lutheran congregation as were his uncle and aunt- the Giblers. From the limited data of that day obtainable from church, cemetery, and court house records, the names of the Routson children [are included in this data base.]

Probably about 1820 Adam Conrad Routson, Sr and his wife Catherine left the Uniontown area and went to live in the Middletown area of western Frederick Co MD. Where most of their children and their descendants had resettled. Both died there and were buried in the Zion Lutheran and Reforned Church cemetery in Middletown where their tombstones give us the [their information]They left 9 children , 63 grandchildren and 150 great grand children.

In the estate papers of both are several items that are of historical interest to descendants today. His will, written Oct 29 1825 was probated in Frederick on June 27 1827 (Will book HS 3 p544) states that his wife was to receive $200 in money and all household furniture and kitchen utensils; that son George was to inherit the homestead plantation; and that he had previously conveyed all other lands to his son Benjamin- the whole being of a tract called "Adam's Expense." In administration Account Books GME 4 p 395 and GME 8 p 406 it tells us that Adam's estate paid $5.00 to a Rev McGraw for the funeral service, and that each child eventually received the amounts of $294.86 and 3/10 cents and $19.44 and 7/8 cents. From their mother each child finally received $9.05 and 5/9 cents, a Rev Abraham Reck was paid $5.00 for having her funeral, and a David H Smith received $1.00 for his "ringing the church bells" at her funeral service. Both estates were finally settled by their son, Ludick and the same day Nov 19, 1832.

Adam Routzahn's uncle and aunt (and our great uncle and aunt), Michael and Elizabeth Gibler, were buried at St Mary's Church, Silver Run. Their tombstones still exist and are in remarkably good condition, and are inscribed in German Elizabeth Gibler's marker tells us that she was born a Routzahn, and her dates are Born May 14 1725 d Jane 20 1791. The dates for her husband, Michael Gibler are b Feb 19 1728 d April 5 1791. His full name was that of George Michael Gibler.
