Captain's obituary states she was still alive in 1899 the year he died. If the date 11/12/1834 on the Pennington monument is her birthdate then she was 65 at the time of her husband's death, and 40 when Mary Ball his first wife died in 1874. There is no evidence that they had any children. She was 17 yrs younger than the Captain.
1905/Jan 7 Dr and Mrs Edward P Burham of Wilmington have been the guests of Mr and Mrs E J Penington."

1916 June 17 "Mrs. Elizabeth J Pennington died at her home Sunday morning, after an illness of eight months, most of the time being confined to her bed. She was nearly 82 years of age. Mrs. Pennington was the widow of Captain Samuel Pennington and a daughter of the late James h Burnham, near here. She leaves three sisters and two brothers. Mrs. Mary A Pleasanton, Mrs. James R Hoffecker, Mrs. Annie B Pennington, William S. Burnham of Middletown and Thomas a Burnham of Wilmington. The funeral was held at Mrs. Pennington late home on Wednesday afternoon and was in charge of the Rev Francis H Moore, pastor of Forest Presbyterian Church of which church Mrs. Pennington bas been a member for many years. Interment was made in Forest Cemetery. The Pall-bearers were Robert A Cochran, William A Comegys, J. Frank McWhorter, William A. McCrone, J Fletcher Deakyne, Howard A. Pool." MT T
