[505] At an early age he clerked in the gereal store of George Stonesifer, a cousin, in Littlestown. Then he helped to operate the general dry goods store founded by his wife's father, James H. Colehouse. In the spring of 1885 he purchased the family business, and then operated it for some 50 years until his death at 81.

He belonged to many civil organizations in Littlestown. As were his parents, David and Amanda Stonesifer Kump, he as a member of St Mary's Reformed congregation at Silver Run. After settling down in Littlestown, however, he became a member of Redeemer's Reformed Church, and as time went on, was one of the leaders of that congregation. Redeemers Church was founded in 1860 by residents of town who has belonged to Christ Church a few miles to the east, but who wished to have their own local place of worship near at hand. Mr. Kump was also one of the main organizers of the Littlestown National Bank in 1908 - serving as its first president until 1924 and there after chairman of the board till his death in 1935. He was a director of the bank from 1908 till his death.

Mr. Krump also owned the large farm which was located at the intersection of Christ Church road and the Littlestown Hanover highway. This historic, prosperous, and well-known farm had been established in 1805 when Joseph LeFevre came from Lancaster Co. to Adams Co. and purchased upwards of 300 arres of land in what is now Union township. Mr. LeFever was a third generation member of a French Huguenot family that came to PA in the 1700's to escape religious persecution in their homeland. He developed his property into an outstanding farm, and built a large, brick homestead at the intersection just described, the front part of which also served in the early years as a stage coach stop and hotel. In the late 1800's a railroad line was built between Littlestown and Hanover, the line running between his homestead and Chrict Church which stood a little distance off just to the north. The train stop located here was known as LeFevre's Station. For many years this farm was operated by members of Wildasin family and who were close cousins of Mr. Kump on his Stonesifer side. The writer's (Doyle F. Wildasin) great, grandfather, Jacob Wildasin, directed the erection of the large, still-existing barn @ 1873 and did much of the masonry work himself. He was a cousin of Mr. Kump stemming from early days of the family. His son, the writer's (Doyle F. Wildasin) grandfather, was Reuben Wildasin who was married to Alice Stonesifer, a very close cousin of Mr. Kump's and this couple operated the property for a number of years. Then for many years one of their sons, Harvey Wildasin and his wife Mary, operated it. Ownership of the farm was continued in the Kump family till its sale in 1970. The property is now in a state of dereliction.
