notes of Lisa Lane
Louis use to tell his daughters that his family was from France and was quite proud of it. The only reference I can find is an LDS reference to a William Voshell arriving from France in 1755.
BURIAL:
Brainerd Tribune, July 28, 1900 p. 4, Col. 6
Mortuary Record
Usual W. Voshell died at Pine River on Monday, 23d inst., of rheumatism of the heart, aged 68 years. The remains were brought to this city and the interment took place at 11 o'clock, Rev. Clulow conducting services at the grave.
Brainerd Dispatch, July 27, 1900 p. 1, Col. 2 Deaths:
Usual W. Voshell, a prosperous settler residing at Pine River, died on Monday, July 23rd, of rheumatism of the heart, aged 68 years. Deceased had worked in the field all day and was feeling as well as usual. He had driven home with his son,and was about to leave the wagon when he dropped dead. The funeral services were held on Wednesday. Rev. Clulow, of the M.E. Church,of this city, officiating.
CENSUS:
Dearborn Co Indiana census for 1850 and 1860 at the state archives, but some of this is also available online-- Usual is there in 1850 as Usal or Uzal Voshal, age 18,as well as Alsa or Also Voshal, age 10 (living with people named McClure) There's a Mary Voshall, age 7 in another household,(people named Sommers) and an Obediah Voshell is there, age 47, occupation cooper, born Deleware! Different households, but no wife listed then for Obediah, so he might have farmed out the kids, and they were all on the same page in the same township. If that's Usual's dad, there's the Deleware/Maryland link!! They show up again in 1860 -- this time as Usial age 30, wife Annie age 25, daughters Laurie age 3 and Martha age 1, last name Vocial (like social, with a v...?) Obediah is also there with wife Sophie, with the same spelling on the last name.
