" was an MD (Surg. USA) James prepared to go to Scotland to prove his father's will had embarked, but was taken sick and died before sailing. This discouraged the rest. The old family Bible with papers to prove title stolen by a servant from Ann Stuart's house. Since Jas. death the property is escheats.
Evidently his father bequeathed him some property in Scotland to which he then may have had a clouded claim. James undertook to gain possession of it and for this purpose he obtained from James Christie, who in 1703 had married a sister of James's mother, and affidavit dated Nov 20 1752 relating the facts of John Stewart's arrival in America and his subsequently movements, and with this he started for Scotland. He took sick in New York City and died on the eve of his intended departure. We believe that Thomas Sawyer was made administrator of his estate for a settlements made Jan 16 1757 of the estate of James Steward in New Castle county court by Thomas Sawyer administrator showed payments to James McDonough, Alexander Bryan, John Corbit, John Vandyke, Benjamin Thomas, Elizabeth Hartup, Alexander Montgomery, James Anderson, and David Stewart. The settlement showed a balance of 108 pounds to be divided among the heirs, but the names of the heirs were not given
