Colonel Nicholas Hyland was an officer in the Colonial Wars of the Maryland Militia. Record found in MD Archives No 18
Hyland line T A Glenn London 1929:
French and Indian War Vol 9 pp 369
He was a member of House of Delegates from Cecil Co 1751 to 1766. One of the founders of St Mary Anne's Church in North East MD
Tombstone incription reads:
"Underneath this stone is Deposit the remains of Colonel NICHOLAS HYLAND ESQ who departed this life the 2nd day of April 1774 in the 65th year of his age His Publick and Private Character were equally and Honour to the Man and an Ornament to his profefsion In various Paths and Piety he trod Beloved by friends and accepted of his He's gone to rest no pains no mortal w Shall now disturh his sleep and solf rest His body mouldring lies beneath this stone Our lord will raife is Fashion like h"
