Interments in the Historic Congressional Cemetery, Congressional Cemetery Wash DC:
Dr Elijah Richardson Craven. b. 1796 d. Dec. 4, 1823 27 years R63/207
"In this city, about 9 o'clock yesterday morning, Elijah R Craven, A.M. and M.D. Professor of Botany in the Columbian College, in the District of Columbia. In his deceased, Society is bereft of a useful member--learning, of and accomplished proficient--his profession, of one of its brightest ornaments-- the infant Seminary, with which he was connected, of a valuable professor: And his aged parents, his companion and relatives, have maintained a loss which time can never repair. Could all the virtues which adorn the most improved state of humanity, escape the shaft of Death, he had still lived.
History of the Medical Society of D.C. 1811-1909 " Born Feb.3, 1796 Morrisville NJ. A.B. 1815, Princeton; M.D. 1819, Univ. Penn. Died Dec.4, 1823 from hemorrhage caused by being thrown from his horse. Son of John Craven. Studied medicine with Dr. P.S. Dorsey, Philadelphia, PA. After graduation, practiced in Washington, Sometime Prof. Botany, Columbian College, D. C."
